More expensive than softwood, but still at the lower end of the price scale, uPVC doors tend to be constructed around a steel frame with a strong locking system. They are usually made to order and a good door supplier and manufacturer will offer a guarantee.
Composite Doors
Composite doors are made from various materials, including PVC, timber, insulating foam and glass reinforced plastic (like fibreglass), hence the term composite. This combination of materials offers superb strength and security, a realistic wood grain effect and a very wide range of styles – from classic to contemporary – and colours, from the traditional pillar box red, elegant navy and racing green to more contemporary shades of grey and chalky blues. Again, they’re measured and made to order.
Aluminium and Steel Doors
Metal doors are enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment, perhaps started by the trend for fully opening bi-fold doors out to the back garden, and can come in a range of finishes. These can look absolutely stunning in the more modern property.
